I was tasked with scheduling all of the content that would be pushed out over the official Recreational Sports Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram handles. When I was handed the sheet with six different event posts that had to go on three different mediums (6 x 3 = 18.....holy crap) I was instantly terrified. BUT...what do you know; Hootsuite to the rescue.
While I had seen Hootsuite for classes and in VT PRSSA meetings, I had never used it myself. I can easily say after using it for 10 minutes I was hooked. It's amazing how simple and straightforward it is, but also how much time it could save me. Granted, I'm not so Facebook or Instagram famous that I have to previously schedule my posts - #Goal - but for other organizations whose social media accounts I run it could come in incredibly handy. I think the biggest challenge I faced with using Hootsuite was one created by myself, not the site. I had to take a longer Facebook post and condense it in to 140 characters for Twitter, then transfer it in to hashtags and short, punny lines for Instagram. For 18 posts. Take about a headache. However, they all got through and went without a hitch thanks to Hootsuit! I cannot wait to incorporate what I've learned with this site into my posts for both the Virginia Tech Public Relations Student Society of America and the Virginia Tech Sports Business Club.
